It’s time to meet this year’s #BatsfordPrize judges! Starting off with a few new faces...

Philippa Beale is an artist, curator and educator, and is a founding member of the Arborealists. Her work aims to bear witness to the greater environmental campaign and to provide visual experiences that enable people to feel connected to nature.

Professor Margaret Buck OBE’s and career has straddled the fine arts and design. She was Head of Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design (UAL) and previously Head of Camberwell College of Arts. She was also a trustee of the V&A and the Arts Foundation.

Catherine-Marie Longtin is a French Canadian artist and quilter. She spent 11 years working in academia before turning to quilting to follow her passion for textiles. Catherine’s work reflects a deep love of colour, interior design and abstract, minimalist art.

And now onto some more familiar ones…

Neil Dunnicliffe is a literary agent. He was a publisher of children’s books for over 20 years, collaborating with many leading artists and writers. In 2022, Neil set up Spring Literary, an agency representing children’s authors and illustrators.

Vaughan Grylls is a photographer, author and artist. His photography has been shown in the Photographers’ Gallery, Whitechapel Art Gallery and the Arnolfini. From 1996 to 2005 he was Chief Executive of the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

Anne Kelly is a textile artist and tutor. She trained in Canada and the UK and now teaches and speaks to guilds and groups. Her work is exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, she is the author of many best-loved Batsford textile books.

Polly Powell is owner of Batsford Books, the organiser of the Batsford Prize. She is the daughter of Geoffry Powell of Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, architects of the Barbican, in whose honour the Geoffry Powell Award for Architecture has been established.

Mike Tonkin qualified as an architect in 1989 and his interest in nature led to his qualification as a landscape architect in 2014. He completed his PhD in the Engineering Department at the University of Bath.

Cold weather is in, get the cords out!

Originating as a heavy-duty workwear fabric in Manchester and still fondly called "Manchester" in Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, corduroy is a fabric with deep roots and unmatched character and is the PERFECT material for those who wish to layer for autumn with a stylish flair.

Wrap up warm with ‘Corduroy: The Story of a Timeless Fabric’ by @just_ask_eric_musgrave publishing next month!

Pre-order your copy now, available via our website (link in bio) and via all good bookshops.
