London Textile Month Exhibition: Log Cabin Quilt Blocks

17/09/2026 11:00 am – 27/09/2026 6:00 pm | Batsford Gallery, 266 Hackney Rd, London, E2 7SJ
As part of London Textile Month curated by Selvedge Magazine, Catherine-Marie Longtin presents a rare exhibition bringing together the 100 log cabin quilt blocks created for her forthcoming book, Log Cabin Quilt Blocks: 100 Colour and Pattern Variations, published by Batsford. Displayed together as a complete series, the works explore the remarkable versatility of one of quilting’s most enduring and recognisable patterns.
Through subtle shifts in colour, rhythm and geometry, each block becomes a distinct study in composition. Drawing on influences from abstract art, architecture and minimalist design, Longtin transforms the traditional log cabin structure into a contemporary exploration of repetition, variation and textile abstraction.
Presented at the Batsford Gallery, this exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the complete body of work in one space before the publication of the book. Together, the blocks reveal both the technical precision and quiet creativity of quilt making, celebrating the enduring possibilities of colour, pattern and stitched form.
