The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE is located in Riga, in the centre of the Old Town, in the former building of the Riga bourse, which was built in the form of a Venetian palazzo in 1850-1855 and symbolises plenitude with its richly decorated facade as well as the materials used for interior finishing. It is the largest building designed by Baltic-German architect Harald Julius von Bosse (1812-1894) in Riga. From 2007 to 2011 the building underwent renovation and adaptation to the needs of the museum. The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE has been open to the public in its new premises since 2011. In 2013 the museum received a special commendation from the European Museum Forum for rebranding.

Founded in New York City in 1870, The Lotos Club is one of the oldest literary and arts clubs in the United States. Lotos became known for its tradition of honouring outstanding men and women from all walks of life with testimonial ‘State Dinners’, especially after it began to commemorate these occasions with unique souvenir menus designed by artists and illustrators of the day. Art at the Table is a lavishly illustrated retrospective of the Club’s 150-year-old-tradition, featuring the art of the menus and the stories behind them. American culture and history are chronicled in these fêtes, from Gilbert and Sullivan and Mark Twain to aviator Amelia Earhart and author Tom Wolfe.

In the heart of Hyderabad stands a majestic building with a colossal Corinthian portico. Once the British Residency of Hyderabad State, it was constructed at the start of the 19th century as the official residence of the envoys of the East India Company. The grand mansion was the central location for the events of William Dalrymple’s book White Mughals, and became a visual symbol of power, dramatically changing Hyderabad’s architecture. Since India’s independence it has been the pioneering Osmania University College for Women, and was recently upgraded to a university in its own right, the Telangana Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam.

The building has now been restored following a major conservation programme coordinated by World Monuments Fund, and this ground-breaking book is published to mark the inauguration.

Conservation architect Anuradha Naik explores the history of the structure, its occupants and its influence, and gives a detailed account of the revelations unearthed by the recent restoration. Its design has traditionally been attributed to a 22-year-old East India Company engineer, but Naik presents the new theory that its true designer may have been the notable British architect Henry Holland.

Providing new insights into Smith’s work, this volume connects the themes that have persisted throughout the artist’s career, from her exploration of identity and self-invention to her preoccupation with stereotypes and clichés in film and literature. This publication will introduce Smith’s expansive body of work to a new generation of viewers. Situated alongside movements of conceptual and pop art and shaped by the feminist movements of the 1970s, Smith’s singular career expands our understanding of American art and provokes us to think critically on the culture we share.

The largest of the Hapsburg residential palaces, The Albertina in Vienna provides a stunning home to one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world. Named after its founder, passionate art collector Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen (1738-1822), the priceless collection comprises 50,000 drawings and watercolours and some 900,000 prints ranging from the late Gothic period to contemporary art.

Here visitors can see world-famous works by da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael as well as Dürer, Rubens, Rembrandt and Cézanne. The modern collection contains a vibrant array of works from a diverse range of artists: from Schiele, Klimt, Picasso and Pollock to Warhol, Katz, Baselitz and Kiefer.

An extraordinary treasure trove of visual knowledge, The Albertina has also been gathering photographs since the mid-19th century, and holds around 50,000 plans, sketches and models in its Architecture Collection. This small volume showcases the highlights from this vast collection, as chosen by its Director.

In ancient Greece, funerary monuments were visual expressions of mourning that provided the opportunity for the living to commemorate and communicate with the dead. Today they offer a wealth of information about the deceased and the communities of which they were a part, for example, their status, material aspects of their lives, and how they wanted to be depicted. 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has one of the finest collections of Greek funerary monuments outside of Greece. This richly illustrated volume, by renowned author Paul Zanker, presents more than 50 outstanding examples, created from the 7th to the 2nd century B.C., that represent a variety of media and geographical regions. Through their shared focus on memorializing the dead, these extraordinary works of art offer insights into all facets of life in ancient Greece.

Featuring African textiles, clothing, headwear, and jewellery, this book celebrates African dress as a product of global interactions, generational conflict and continuity, and expressions of gender. The book highlights the strength and resilience of long-standing practices that characterise African dress; the wide variety of cultural, religious, and political motivations for adorning oneself; and the varying identities reflected in analysing African material culture of the last century and a half. Textile selections include hand-woven and dyed examples alongside factory-woven and machine-printed cloth. Items of adornment include amber and silver jewellery from North Africa, beadwork-embellished clothing from South Africa, and various headdresses from across the continent, to name a few examples. From formal European colonisation, to independence for African countries, to the liberalisation of African economies, this book will demonstrate how dress practices reveal personal and group identities, cultural traditions, religious associations, political affiliations, and aspirations.

The Adirondack Park in New York State offers a rare combination of breathtaking natural beauty, surprising and inspiring stories, and rich traditions of progress and preservation. Created in 1892 amid concerns for the water and timber resources of the region, the park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States and draws between seven and ten million visitors yearly. Since 1957, Adirondack Experience (formerly the Adirondack Museum) has shared stories of the people who lived, worked and played in the Adirondacks through their rich collection of objects, photographs, books, manuscripts, and historical records. This fully illustrated book shares the region’s unique history, while celebrating the transformation of the Adirondacks from wilderness to mineral and lumber resource to resort community to recreation getaway.

Addie Herder created small-scale collages for which she relied on compositional principles of balance and dynamism. These rigorous, found paper compositions earned the artist well-deserved respect from other artists, dealers, and collectors. Although Herder’s work invites comparisons with well-known artists like Joseph Cornell, she eschewed prevailing 20th-century artistic trends such as painterly abstraction, minimalism, and conceptualism. This beautifully illustrated book, the first to examine the art of this dynamic artist, introduces her multilayered practice to new audiences and offers a critical analysis of her intricate and intriguing “assemblage” constructions and ephemera.
